Use this calculator to calculate the Platelet Concentration in your PRP
This calculator helps estimate the platelet concentration in your PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) sample based on the volume of blood drawn, the final PRP volume, and your patient’s baseline platelet count.
Volume of Blood Drawn (ml):
Enter the total amount of blood collected for PRP processing (e.g., 54 mL).
Volume of PRP Created (ml):
Enter the final volume of PRP after centrifugation (e.g., 7 mL).
Recovery Rate (default 0.9 for 90%):
This represents the efficiency of platelet recovery during processing.
The default value is 0.9 (90%), based on peer-reviewed studies showing that EmCyte PRP kits recover, on average, 90% of platelets (Marx, 2004; Mazzocca et al., 2012).
If using a different system, adjust this value based on manufacturer data or lab validation.
Baseline Platelet Count (per µL):
Enter the patient’s platelet count before PRP processing.
The default is 250,000/µL (average healthy adult).
For accurate results, input the patient’s actual lab value if available.
Click “Calculate”:
The tool will compute:
Total Platelets in PRP (absolute count)
Platelet Concentration in PRP (per µL)
Concentration Factor (how many times more concentrated than baseline)
The default 90% recovery rate is based on studies of EmCyte PRP systems, which demonstrate high platelet capture efficiency:
Marx RE. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP): what is PRP and what is not PRP? Implant Dent. 2004;10(4):225-228.
Mazzocca AD, et al. Platelet-rich plasma differs according to preparation method and human variability. J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2012;94(4):308-316.
For other PRP kits, consult manufacturer data or clinical studies for appropriate recovery rates.
Higher concentration factors (typically 3–8× baseline) are associated with improved clinical outcomes in orthopedic and regenerative applications.
Total platelet count helps ensure sufficient bioactive factors (e.g., growth factors) are delivered to the target tissue.
Use this calculator to standardize PRP preparation and optimize therapeutic dosing.
